ok, where to start.
I've done a little bit of programming here and there over the years, I learned apple basic in my teenage years and then played with qbasic later on. I've learned HTML and I can look at some source and understand the gist of it for the most part. I've wanted to learn quite a bit more and now find that I do have the time to start the learning process. after looking at another topic on here "Any Computer Developers/Programmers on the Zone"
I see there is quite a bit out there! Are there any suggestions on where to start? Any tutorials online, books etc that anyone would recommend? Vb6 C++ which one first?

I would not recommend doing anything with VB6. Sooner then later it will not be supported by either Microshit or the newer Operating Systems. With Microsoft's Longhorn project they're going all .NET, and if I'm not mistaken VB6 programs will not be supported or able to run. I personally started out with VB and Web languages, but a good question is: What do you wish to do with the knowledge and which platform to you wish to program for? What I mean by what you want to do with it is Web apps, games and so on, and by platforms I mean Unix, Windows? Each language has it's benifits and draw backs. I'll be glad to help in any way I can, but a bit more direction would help. Oh, another thing to consider; if you decide on VB do you have the money to obtain and/or access to the required software? There are a few IDE's out there that are free for VB, but they seem to lack in accessibility.

Suck it up and learn c++ or one of the .net languages, if you want to program for linux c++ or java is the way to go, but I must say I love the .net languages for windows.
